Andaman & Nicobar Islands have been known for its stunning natural beauty, pristine beaches, tropical rainforests, and rich cultural diversity for decades. However on 23rd August, This Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands is all set to make history by hosting the 1st ever Andaman International FIDE Chess Tournament from 23rd to 28th August 2025. This prestigious global chess event, recognized by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), will bring together some of the finest chess minds from India and around the world. Prominent Players from Three Federations viz Sri Lanka, Nepal & India will muscle the art of Chess to best of their abilities.
After successfully conducting two back to back editions of "AICF Chess For Everyone in 2023 & 2024", Andaman Nicobar Chess Association is all set to organize this Global Event this year which has a massive prize fund of 7 Lakhs to be played for. The top 25 finishers will receive cash prizes, while the top 5 finishers will receive a trophy along with the cash prize. Not only this, there are special prizes for best young boy and girl, best female, best unrated, best veteran, and best local players. Plus, there are age category prizes. Overall, there is plenty of motivation for players to participate and win this event.
Organized in collaboration with the All India Chess Federation (AICF) and the Andaman & Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA), the tournament marks a significant milestone in positioning the islands as not only a paradise for nature and adventure tourism but also as a growing hub for international sports and intellectual competitions.
This Global Event will see GM Anurag Mhamal, IM Dinesh K Sharma, WFM Saparya Ghosh, FM Kumar Gaurav, CM Sivathanujan S (Srilanka), Bhosale Shriraj, Dhami Deepak (Nepal) in action, to name a few among the other top players who will come and play from different parts of India and abroad. We can rightly say now that Chess in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a growing force to reckon with, having 30+ Rated Players and many many other Emerging Young Talents who have been performing exceptionally well at the National & International Levels.
